Adolf Hitler
The Dictator
Here comes the story of World War II:
How Hitler was defeated?
Hitler assumed the war is over; Winston Churchill will sign a peace agreement with Hitler and wouldn’t put his country at risk when the German army is so powerful.
What happened next is what Hitler never thought of even in his dreams.
Winston Churchill gave an iconic speech,
“We shall fight on the landing grounds. We shall fight in the fields and in the streets. We shall fight in the hills. We shall never SURRENDER”.
Winston Churchill confirmed there can be no peace treaty between Churchill and Hitler. The war that was declared against Germany will continue. Churchill’s speech also meant that Hitler will now try to invade The UK too. Hitler tried the same. Hitler plans Operation Sea Lion to invade The UK.
Trying to Invade the UK
Hitler thinks of how to invade The UK as there is no connection by land between The UK and Mainland Europe. So, the army couldn’t be deployed. If tried with ships, The UK has better fighting abilities than Germany. The British Royal Navy had more sips than Germany. So, it won’t be a feasible move.
Hitler then decided to establish control of the air space. German Air Force Luftwaffe had 2,600 aircrafts. The UK had only 700. 10th July 1940, Hitler attacks The UK from the sky. German Air Force Luftwaffe attacked by bombing. The initial goal was to destroy aircraft, airfields, and manufacturing factories. The small-sized air force of The UK which was only one-fourth the size of the German Air Force, tried its best to defend their country. It was a tough fight but in the end, the British had to incur heavy losses. Eventually, Germans began attacking in the night too.
24th August 1940 was the night, the German soldiers by mistake bombed London, killing many civilians. “It was the Great Fire in the city of London. Almost to be compared with the fire of London in 1666. Pictures look like hell on Earth.” Winston Churchill was astounded by this war. Cities were being attached. He decided to do the same. The UK retaliated by bombing Berlin. When Hitler saw this happening, he was not interested in initially bombing London but his cities were being bombed. He swears he will destroy London.
On 15th September 1940, Hitler ordered the German Air Force to carry on an all-out decisive attack. More than 1000 Fighter Jets, at once. To finish the work in only one day. Imagine what the people of London saw that day when 1000 Fighter Jets flew in the sky at once. Coming to bomb your country. Around 500 fighters and about 500 bombers.
British gets their Royal Air Force ready to retaliate with 630 air crafts. A historic battle was witnessed in the sky. “The first wave of 100 bombers and 400 fighters were intercepted. Fighting raged, all the waves were crushed.”
Battle of Britain Day
British Air Force shot down more
than 60 Luftwaffe air crafts and lost 29. The Royal British Air Force
successfully retaliated against the German Airstrike. The day was then famously celebrated
as the “Battle
of Britain Day”.
What went wrong with the Germans? The German Air Force with such an advantage had to surrender before the Royal British Air Force?
The reason is simple, Germans wanted to invade The UK but for The UK it was a question of their existence. If they don’t put everything they have today, their country will be finished. There won’t be any place to stay. There will be a huge difference in the motivation level of soldiers.
This was the first major loss of Hitler. For the first time in WW II Hitler had to face defeat. Hitler knew that there were minimal chances for Germany to win the battle. The Operation Sea Lion was postponed. Hitler moves his concentration from The UK to the Soviet Union.
The Axis Powers
April 1941, in Easter Europe, Hungary, Romania, and Bulgaria had formed an alliance with Germany making themselves the part of Axis Powers. In the East Yugoslavia and Greece were already conquered by Hitler. Mussolini was busy occupying Libya and Greece but the presence of the British in the Mediterranean Sea was more influential. The Italian forces couldn’t deal with them alone.
To defeat the UK, Hitler sends his troops along with the soldiers of Italy. With this Yugoslavia and Greece were also conquered. Hitler was never keen on invading The UK interestingly. Hitler wanted to sign a peace treaty with The UK. He felt he should attack the Soviet Union and defeat them and if that could happen The UK would be forced to sign a peace treaty with him. But, why attack Soviet Union when he already has a peace treaty signed with them? The reason behind this was Hitler’s ideology. He hated the communist. He still knew if he could conquer a country as big as the Soviet Union Germany will be the No. 1 Superpower in the World.
The Megalomaniac
Hitler was suffering from Megalomania, he believed he ruled the world. Power hungry. He thought he can achieve anything. He can rule the world.
The war against The Soviet Union
Declaring war against the Soviet Union becomes a blunder for Hitler. A turning point in WW II. The way he invaded France, he thought he could invade the Soviet Union. The German forces will be divided into 3 The first part will move from the Baltic region towards Leningrad (Stalin’s place). The second one will attack Moscow. The third one will shoot through Oocrayne moving from the South. The operation started on 22nd June 1941.
The Soviet Union Army compared to the Germans was much bigger. The Soviet Union had 20,000 tanks, Germans had 6,000. But, German technology was much better than the Soviet Union. Hitler had the upper hand. To save their country, the Soviet Union partnered with The Uk and became the part of Allied Powers. Together the Soviet Union and The UK plan how to send supplies to the Soviet Union Army. They decide on the route that goes through Iran. The problem was the Iranian Govt was friendly with Hitler. So, The UK and the Soviet Union together invade Iran. That was not much of help as with Hitler’s Blitzkrieg Strategy, The Germans occupy a large amount of Soviet Union territory. The Germans reached moved to just 300 km from Moscow. At this point in time Hitler and his commanders have a disagreement on some point. Due to this, the next German advance gets delayed till October. It was cold and the Soviets have an upper hand in fighting in such conditions as they are used to it.
On the other hand with Japan, the Soviet Union found their second advantage. Japan and Soviet Union had signed a non-aggression treaty. The Soviet Union troops who were fighting with Japan now could go back and fight in the West against German to save their nation.
The Pearl Harbour Incident
December 1941, Japan suddenly attacked Pearl Harbour in the USA without any provocation. More than 2,300 USA troops get killed. America wasn’t involved in WW II till then. America kept away from Europe’s latest developments and didn’t get involved in anything.
When Pearl Harbour gets attacked the USA officially declares war against Japan. USA entered WW II. America with allied forces (Including The UK, the Soviet Union and China) joins the war. The USA takes some time to prepare for WW II till then early 1942, Japan had already invaded countries like Thailand and Cambodia. Mid-1942 Hitler decides to focus on Soviet Union’s Southern part. It was a supply chain from Iran and Hitler wanted to attach it. This will be the bitterly fought war in the city of Stalingrad. Soviet Union’s army could successfully defend itself from the Germans.

The Retaliation
Allied Forces with America attacked Japanese territory in the South Pacific. “The Battle of Mid Way”. 4 important Japanese Aircraft and Supply carriers were destroyed in June 1942. End of 1942 the British Army successfully drove German and Italian forces away from Egypt. The war of Stalingrad continued for long.
November 1942, winter, Germans finding it difficult to fight. At one point in time, Germans had almost had total control. Soviets fought till the end. The battle of Stalingrad during WW II was the most deadly battle. Soviets were successful finally. Almost 3,00,000 soldiers who were around Stalingrad were surrounded by the Soviets. These will then surrender in February 1943. This proves to be the biggest turning point during the WW II.
Fate of Mussolini
July 1943, the Italian citizens threw Dictator Mussolini out. The anti-fascist movement started in Italy. Worried about their status citizens of Italy revolt against the dictator. Mussolini gets killed by a civilian partisan. Italy gets a new govt and the new govt decides to stop fighting against the Allied Forces. The Allied Forces slowly get confident that they can defeat Hitler.
The Master Plan of Stalin, Roosevelt and Churchill
November 1943, Stalin, Roosevelt and Churchill meet in Tehran to discuss how WWII can be stopped. 6th June 1944, a historic day, D-Day as it is called, Allied Forces began a terrifying operation to the ground. More than 150,000 British, American and Canadian soldiers land on the Normandy beaches of France. They will fight against the German army on land and free France. After the Dunkirk evacuation a few years ago, this was the first time the British Army was on land to fight against the German army.
This becomes a dangerous situation for Hitler. Hitler had instructed his army to focus on the Soviet Union. Due to cold weather Germans suffered losses and couldn’t defeat the Soviet Union. Now they were being attacked from the Western front as well. Hitler decided to retreat his army from the East and focus on the West against the Allied Forces. The moment Hitler retreated his army from The Soviet Union he faced a major counterattack. Within the next 2 months, the Soviet Union regained 600 km of their land from the Germans. Poland, Czech, Hungary and Romania came under the Soviet Union.
Other hands Allied Forces landed in Southern France as well. Countries liberated one after another. Hitler’s army gets thrown out. Yugoslavia threw the Germans away on its own strength. Germans getting attacked from all three sides. Hitler plans his major offensive strategy. “The Battle of Bulge”. At the Ardennes Forest, it was intended that the German forces will retreat the Allied Forces. Before invading Germany, the Allied forces carry devastating aerial bombings on German cities.
Gangin' Up
February 1945, in Crimea, Yalta Conference was held. It was decided that any country which declared war against Germany can join the Allied Forces. Venezuela, Uruguay, Turkey, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Lebanon, and Paraguay all together declare war against Germany.
The last 4 months
The last 4 months of WWII were the most painful. 30,000 people getting killed every single day. As the Allied Forces move forward they understand Hitler’s Concentration camps. Hundreds of thousands of Jews were cruelly killed. Allied Forces continue bombing German cities. It was later condemned by many that it wasn’t necessary to continue bombing German Cities where a lot of civilians were killed. The question was raised when on the land the forces could defeat Hitler why the bombings?
Hitler was about to lose.
May 1945, Berlin was surrounded by Soviet Army. Just 2 days before this on 30th April 1945 Hitler commits Suicide. 8th May 1945, Germany Surrendered Formally. German territories get divided into East Germany and West Germany. Poland gets created as a new nation from the bigger part of East Germany. A number of new borders were drawn.
